Populations and germplasm

Teosinte introgression library

ZeaL, the Zea Exotic Allele Library

2,178 BC₂S₃ lines, with about 4,000 planned, that carry segments of 82 georeferenced teosinte accessions, from five taxa collected across Mexico and Central America, in the inbred line B73.

In collaboration with the labs of James Holland, Jesús Sánchez, Ruairidh Sawers, Edward Buckler and Matthew Hufford.

Mapping population

B73 × Palomero Toluqueño recombinant inbred lines

Lines from a cross between the reference line B73 and the Mexican highland variety Palomero Toluqueño, evaluated in highland and lowland fields in Mexico to map locally adaptive traits.

A collaboration led by the lab of Ruairidh Sawers.

Near-isogenic lines

Inv4m near-isogenic lines

B73 lines carrying the Inv4m inversion from the highland variety Michoacán 21, backcrossed for eight generations, to study its effects on flowering time, plant height and phosphorus responses.

In collaboration with the lab of Ruairidh Sawers.

Multi-parent population

MexMAGIC

A multi-parent advanced generation inter-cross (MAGIC) population from eight Mexican native maize varieties from distinct agroecological zones, for mapping traits that vary with the environment.

A collaboration led by the lab of Ruairidh Sawers.

Genomes and data

Genome assemblies

HiLo genomes

Seven annotated reference genomes: Mexican native maize from the highlands (Palomero Toluqueño and Palomero de Jalisco), mid-elevations (Tabloncillo) and lowlands (Zapalote Chico), and the CIMMYT inbreds CML457 and CML459, adapted to the highlands, and CML530, adapted to acid soils. Deposited in MaizeGDB.

From the HiLo project, funded by NSF award 1546719.

Genome assembly

Inv4m NIL genome

Genome assembly of the B73 near-isogenic line that carries the Michoacán 21 Inv4m haplotype. It delimits the inversion precisely, to 15.2 Mb.

In collaboration with the lab of Ruairidh Sawers.

Genomes

Zea genomic variation map

Variation from 744 genomes covering maize and all wild Zea taxa, with more than 70 million SNPs.

A collaboration led by Huazhong Agricultural University.

Expression database

MaizExpressN

Look up a maize gene and see how its expression responds to nitrogen across published RNA-seq studies, study by study and pooled by tissue, growth system, developmental stage and genotype.

Lipid atlas

Zea Lip

Glycerolipid profiles across leaf development in B73, CML312 and Palomero Toluqueño, with web tools to browse and compare lipid levels across leaves and genotypes.

Database

Sorghum Lipid Database (SoLD)

An interactive app for exploring lipid profiles across the Sorghum Association Panel and how they vary with environment and genotype.

Software and code

Imaging platform

GLO-Roots

An imaging platform for characterizing root systems grown in soil, with the code to analyze its images.

Code

Code on GitHub

Analysis pipelines and code from our papers, in the lab's GitHub account and the one we share with the Sawers lab.
